The network "Handel im Wandel" (retail in transition) initiated by METRO AG was awarded today with an accreditation certificate from the German Energy Agency DENA. With the certificate, DENA recognises the outstanding work of the network, which began operations on 1 October 2015, in the field of energy and resource management. Olaf Schulze from Energy Management at METRO AG accepted the certificate today from Dr. Barbara Hendricks, Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Construction and Nuclear Safety in Berlin.
The network has eight members, seven of which belong to METRO GROUP. These include the sales lines METRO Cash & Carry, Real as well as Media Markt and Saturn. The eighth partner is Galeria Kaufhof. METRO AG coordinates the activities of the network.
The goal of the network is to save a total of 100 gigawatt hours (electrical and thermal) over the next three years. The network focuses on sharing experience and on planning retail and logistics facilities in such a way that energy consumption and emissions are reduced and highly efficient lighting and illumination concepts, refrigeration systems and equipment as well as e-mobility concepts and decentralised power generation can be implemented.
