RFID – a key technology

The abbreviation RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification – a technology that allows objects to be clearly identified using radio signals. Its use opens up new perspectives for commerce, science and public institutions. This technology has already revolutionised many processes in the world of retail. METRO Group has been using RFID in logistics and warehouse management since November 2004. Since mid-2007 the company has also been testing RFID-based services on the sales floor, and conducting pilot projects to test the use of the technology in international trade.
