Eckhard Cordes was born in Neumünster/Germany in 1950. He is married and has four sons.

Occupational career

After studying business administration and obtaining his PhD in this field, he joined Daimler-Benz AG (today Daimler AG) in 1976. From 1976 until 1996 he held various operative and strategic executive positions within the DaimlerChrysler Group in Germany and abroad.

From 1996 until 2005 he was member of the DaimlerChrysler Group Management Board with shifting core responsibilities, inter alia the Daimler Truck and the Mercedes Benz Car Group.

From 2006 until 2009 he held the position as CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Franz Haniel & Cie. GmbH. From February 2006 until October 2009 he was also Chairman of the METRO AG Supervisory Board.

Since the 1st of November 2007 he is Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of METRO AG.

Since 2nd March 2010 he is also CHRO of METRO AG.
