Information technology for world-wide trade

Trading in an international, dynamic-growing large combine calls for an continuous flow of information and an exchange of data that have to be fast and flexible. Efficient information technology creates the best prerequisites to meet these demands, as access to right information at the right time will secure crucial competitive advantages.

This can only be realised by highest levels of functional reliability and operational efficiency of the IT infrastructure - an indispensable prerequisite to control worldwide trading processes effectively.

Varied area of responsibility

MGI METRO Group Information Technology GmbH with subsidiaries in Poland, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine is the national and international IT service provider for the companies of METRO Group. Its tasks include systems development and consulting (merchandise management, logistics, SAP, data warehousing, store automation, management information and archiving systems), the operation of computer centers, the provision of network services, optimization of IT purchases and the group-wide coordination of IT strategy.

The systems looked after by MGI are designed to support the company’s business processes efficiently and effectively. For example, 5,600 users in 900 stores and at headquarters of Metro Cash & Carry work with the web-based merchandise management system developed by MGI.

Infrastructure of superlatives

MGI provides all companies of METRO Group with corporate infrastructures as a basis for communication and data transfer. For this purpose, MGI operates one of the largest European in-company networks that more than 80,000 mail users in more than 2,000 corporate locations are connected to. Some 2,900 users benefit from MGI’s "Data Warehouse" with a capacity of 162 Terabyte.

More than 630 Gigabyte of traffic between the Internet and internal networks, 2.8 million e-mails per day, as well as three computer centers (including one of the biggest computer centers in Germany) with 1.250 Terabyte hard disc memory, 130 NCR nodes, 145 Unix server systems and 600 Windows servers are just a few key figures demonstrating MGI's gigantic achievement potential.
