METRO Group today opens its first Metro Cash & Carry wholesale store in the Moldovan capital Chisinau. With this move, the international trade and retail group is now represented in 29 countries – the Metro Cash & Carry wholesale division alone with operations in 27 countries.

The Chisinau Metro Cash & Carry wholesale store targets professional customers from restaurants and retail businesses as well as institutional customers. It features approx. 5,500 square meters of selling space and was completed in less than 5 months. The product range comprises more than 13,000 articles. The focus on local suppliers which is typical for Metro Cash & Carry worldwide is also pursued in Moldova. Around 90 percent of the goods on display in Chisinau originate from Moldovan and Romanian producers and distributors.

The capital investment in the first Metro Cash & Carry Moldova store amounts to € 15 million. A second wholesale outlet is planned for 2005.

Around the turn of the year 2004/2005, METRO Group will continue the internationalization of its business activities and open its first Metro Cash & Carry store in Serbia.
