METRO GROUP used the regulation on barrier-free information technology (BITV www.bit.bund.de) as a basis for the design of this website. This provided the prerequisites for people with a limited optical perception to use the internet offering.

Since early 2008, the Readspeaker text reading tool has been enabling users to have texts and the contents of individual pages from the METRO GROUP Internet read aloud to them, or to have them saved as MP3 files. Readspeaker is an Internet-based service which does not require the installation or downloading of software to the PC, nor to the website server.

In addition, these pages share a standard layout as well as seamless structuring and navigation. The website features a logical structure of contents for users with assisted technology such as the IBM Home Page Reader, which they can use with all means of their technology. cbi:///cms/32790
  • All forms have a linear and logical structure and can be read by screen readers.
  • The entire offering can be navigated with the tab key. Access keys have deliberately not been installed.
  • A contrast setting can be used to choose between two different colors.
  • By showing the fond size in per cent, the font size on display can be enlarged or downsized depending on the type of browser.
